Baby Kyrique Buchanan, lovingly called “Baby Miracle,” is only a few weeks old and is fighting for his life after being diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and a Large Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).
His heart is severely underdeveloped on the left side, making it difficult for his body to receive the oxygen rich blood it needs. His condition is critical, and his family urgently needs access to specialized pediatric cardiac care that is not available in Jamaica. Kyrique’s mother, Vachel Harwood, 33, is facing the unimaginable reality of watching her firstborn battle for his life while heavily medicated. The family is urgently reaching out to specialized children’s hospitals in the United States and Canada for potentially life saving surgery and treatment. Estimated medical costs may range from US$300,000 to US$700,000, with a medical air ambulance potentially costing another US$60,000– US$67,000. A local Jamaican charity, Crisis Support Charity Organization, is assisting the family with logistics and efforts to secure the specialized care Kyrique desperately needs: www.crisissupportcharity.org
