Founded in 2021, The Burn Foundation of Jamaica was established to address a critical, often overlooked need — the specialized care required for third-degree burn victims in Jamaica. In a country where such care is costly and often inaccessible, the Foundation emerged as a lifeline for burn patients, providing access to international medical institutions, major hospitals across the USA, UK, and India, and leveraging partnerships with global airlines to transfer patients in urgent need of advanced treatment.
Burn injuries are among the most traumatic and devastating medical emergencies — physically, emotionally, and financially. God forbid this ever happens to you or a loved one, the cost of treatment can be overwhelming. That’s why the Foundation exists: to make sure no one faces it alone.
The Burn Foundation was co-founded by Stephen Josephs, OD, and Luke Josephs — two brothers deeply shaped by the values of service and compassion instilled by their parents, Edward and Delories Josephs. Their father's mantra, "Service above self," and their mother’s guiding faith, "Your plans may be established by God," remain the pillars of their work. Together, they’ve made it their life’s mission to wipe a tear from every eye. Their selfless commitment has forged partnerships with local institutions like the University of Technology, Hope Institute Cancer Centre, and Victoria Jubilee Hospital, as well as with top-tier hospitals and an expansive international diaspora network that continues to grow in strength and reach.
In 2025, the Crisis Support Charity was launched as the “parent” organization of The Burn Foundation, carrying a broader and more powerful mandate. Its mission: to respond to major health crises, national emergencies, gender-based violence against women and children, illiteracy, and the climate crisis that increasingly impacts Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
This expansion was born not from ambition, but from necessity. Our people face not just the flames of literal fires, but the figurative fires of poverty, abuse, natural disasters, and neglect. The Crisis Support Charity is a response to the cries that often go unheard — a force of hope for the voiceless and vulnerable.
