Vanessa Wright, a former resident of Maxfield Park Children’s Home and an alumna of Camperdown High School, has a track record of academic success.
She passed 22 subjects at the CSEC and CAPE levels and is now a third-year law student at the University of the West Indies.
Her academic achievements mark a notable journey from state care to pursuing a career in law; however, Wright says funding for her dream has been difficult to find.
Recently awarded $500,000, which is roughly a third of her fees, Wright is seeking additional financial support to complete her education and “pursue a career advocating for vulnerable people.
“Despite facing instability and limited resources, I have remained dedicated to my studies and to gaining the practical experience needed for law school and bar preparation,” she explained.
The donation came from Stephen Joseph and Luke Joseph, directors of Crisis Support Charity, who met Wright when she was 10 years old during a visit to Maxfield Park Children’s Home.
